We're just days away from the 2024 college football season.

The first slate of games will take place Saturday, Aug. 24. Hours ahead of kickoff, numerous preseason rankings continue to roll out. The latest happens to be 247Sports' quarterback rankings for the 2024 season.

Out of all 67 Power Four schools, Clint Brewster placed Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers No. 1 on the ranking. While there are several surprises within the Top 10, this shouldn't be one of them. Ewers is widely considered a Heisman contender and has significantly improved year-over-year as the starter for the Longhorns.

"His situational accuracy and precision have skyrocketed. He sees things develop and lets the ball go with conviction. In 2024, Texas is going to need him to make some crunch-time throws down the stretch and he's built to do so," Brewster said.

Ewers' success against Alabama in Tuscaloosa was also worth noting, according to Brewster. "Last year against Alabama, Ewers showed he could play a damn-near-perfect game on the road in the mecca of college football. I'm not sure that there's another returning quarterback who could do what he did. That says a lot."

Miami's Cam Ward at No. 2, Oregon's Dillon Gabriel at No. 8, and Alabama's Jalen Milroe at N. 9 are bigger surprises. Ward is placed much higher than projected, while Gabriel and Milroe are widely viewed as top-five quarterbacks this season.

Ewers will look to live up to the hype in Texas' season opener against Colorado State on Aug. 31 in Austin.
