The Dallas Cowboys are set to conclude their preseason against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, and while multiple roster spots are on the line, the most significant battle remains at the center position.

As the team inches closer to the regular season, all eyes are on the competition between veteran Brock Hoffman and third-round rookie Cooper Beebe .

The Cowboys lost last year's starting center, Tyler Biadasz , to the Washington Commanders in free agency, leaving a void that both Hoffman and Beebe are eager to fill. Hoffman, who started two games at center last season, brings experience to the table. However, Beebe, a highly-touted rookie, has emerged as the favorite to win the starting job thanks to his standout performances in both training camp and preseason games.

Beebe’s impressive play hasn’t gone unnoticed. In the Cowboys’ Week 2 preseason victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, Beebe showcased his skills, earning high grades from Pro Football Focus (PFF). His strong performance in both pass blocking and run blocking has positioned him as a serious contender for the starting role. While Hoffman has been solid, Beebe's ability to protect the quarterback and create opportunities in the run game has made him a fan favorite.

At this moment? Hoffman is the better snapper, Beebe seemingly the more consistent blocker.

As the preseason finale approaches, the chemistry between Beebe and quarterback Dak Prescott will be critical. Prescott has expressed confidence in both players but acknowledged Beebe's rapid development. If Beebe can continue to build on his preseason success, the Cowboys might opt to "get the ball rolling" with him sooner rather than later.

The Cowboys' preseason finale against the Chargers at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, August 24, will be the final proving ground for Hoffman and Beebe. With the regular season just around the corner, this game could determine who will be snapping the ball to Prescott come Week 1.
