Jimmy Butler has been the face of the Miami Heat since joining in 2019. He has exceeded all expectations that were set for him upon arrival by guiding the franchise to two NBA Finals, unfortunately coming up short on both occasions.

Butler is set to turn 35 next month and has two years left on his contract with the Heat, the second being a player option.

He was believed to be seeking a max contract extension earlier this summer but the Heat were not keen to hand him one, which led to rumors of him potentially being traded.

Fortunately, the matter settled down and the 34-year-old remained in South Beach. For how much longer though? Is Heat's Butler era coming to an end soon or will he end up landing a huge contract extension?

Butler has been told what he must do to get one more huge contract in Miami. Frank Urbina wrote on HoopsHype : "For Butler, 2024-25 will be about proving he can stay healthy and not miss so much regular-season time, especially if the soon-to-be-35-year-old is expecting to get one more huge contract in Miami."

There are no doubts about Butler's ability to deliver in the postseason. He is called 'Playoff Jimmy' for a reason. The major concern about the 34-year-old is his fitness record.

He has played more than 70 games in a regular season just twice in his career, both times back when he was with the Chicago Bulls. He has managed more than 60 appearances only once while in Miami.

Butler is often said to 'sleepwalk' through the regular season. That leaves the Heat with a lot more work to do in the playoffs.

Having a strong regular season will be even more important moving forward with the East having contenders like the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks. Perhaps even the Orlando Magic.

Butler is rumored to be extra-motivated ahead of the 2024-25 season as he tries to prove himself, not just to the Heat but to other teams around the league as well. Hopefully he does that.
