The Kansas City Chiefs completed the preseason portion of their 2024 schedule with a 34-21 loss at the hands of the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. For the most part, the Chiefs came out unscathed concerning injuries, but the Bears weren't so lucky.

Bears safety  Douglas Coleman III was immobilized and taken off the field on a cart after being injured while tackling Chiefs wideout Cornell Powell in the third quarter of Thursday night's preseason finale.

Viewers watched Coleman make the tackle and then fall to the ground. Nearby teammates immediately reacted to the play by calling for the Bears' training staff. It occurred near the Chiefs' sideline, so the Kansas City trainers arrived first to evaluate Coleman.

The Bears' safety was treated on the field, then loaded onto a bodyboard and onto a cart before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus said after the game that Coleman had movement in his extremities and gave the "thumbs up" before leaving the field on the cart.

Players from the Chiefs and Bears gathered on the field and took a knee while the trainers were working on Coleman .

The 26-year-old is currently fighting for a roster spot in Chicago and saw significant playing time in the first two preseason games for the Bears.

There have been no updates to his condition as of Friday morning.
