'It's Rough!' Ex NFL QB Evaluates Steelers' Justin Fields' Preseason

The main topic of conversation this offseason and into the Pittsburgh Steelers preseason is the starting quarterback job.

The Steelers turned over the entire quarterback room this offseason, trading Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett for Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Wilson was penciled in as the starter, but Fields was vocal about competing for the starting job.

Wilson has been slowed by a calf injury suffered the first day of training camp, and that gave Fields ample opportunity to set himself apart and win the starting role.

At least one former NFL quarterback isn't impressed with Fields' play this preseason or the fact that he can't seem to stop struggling under center. Ex-NFL quarterback and current host of The QB School YouTube channel , J.T. O'Sullivan, says Fields' performance has been "rough."

"Overall, it's rough," he said. "I think it's rough in general right now, offensively Pittsburgh-wise. But man, Justin, for whatever reason just continues to really struggle to put it together and really the combination of timing, rhythm, feel, playing within the structure of a play seems like it's almost completely regressed.

"And then even when things are open down the field, we're missing touchdown opportunities, and it's just really, really frustrating."

Fields has one more shot on Saturday afternoon to set himself apart from Wilson, but at this point, it's hard to see the former Chicago Bear and Ohio State Buckeye winning the Week 1 starting job against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 8.
