The Los Angeles Chargers will sit their top 30 players during the third week of the preseason, including star quarterback Justin Herbert , who recently returned to practice after recovering from a plantar fascia injury.

His return has sent Jim Harbaugh into religious ecstasy, saying he’s ‘heard the voice of angels.’ Then, Harbaugh described the effect of Herbert’s presence at practice like in the movie Hoosiers , when Jimmy Chitwood returns to lead the team to a string of victories.

Despite Herbert's availability, the team has opted to rest him for the final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh has announced that Easton Stick will start at quarterback for the third consecutive week, with Luis Perez as the backup.

Stick has played about half of the team's offensive snaps this preseason, completing 13 of 26 passes for 116 yards.

Perez has shown slightly better performance, completing 65% of his passes in his last outing, going for 13 of 20 for 78 yards. Neither quarterback has thrown a touchdown yet.

In a notable shift from previous games, Harbaugh plans to rest around 15 offensive players and 15 defensive players.

This includes some presumptive starters who have had varying amounts of playing time throughout the preseason. This is a deviation from the Chargers’ previous game plans. Some presumptive starters, like Joe Alt have played around half the team’s reps. While other healthy starters haven’t played a down, like Khalil Mack and Gus Edwards.
