The San Diego Padres have welcomed back veteran pitcher Yu Darvish after a lengthy absence.

Darvish , who had been on the restricted list since July 6 due to personal reasons, is now set to rejoin the team and will be placed on the 15-day injured list. This move allows him to return to the active roster in September.

Before his injury, Darvish was performing well, boasting a 4-3 record with a 3.20 ERA in 11 starts.

The 38-year-old has had a successful career, with a record of 107 wins and 88 losses over 12 seasons, making him one of the most accomplished Japanese-born pitchers in MLB history. Padres advisor Hideo Nomo ranks first in all three categories.

The Padres have managed to stay competitive in the National League West, currently sitting 4.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Thanks to the depth in their lineup and pitching staff, they would secure a Wild Card spot if the season ended today.

With Darvish's return on the horizon, the Padres are eager to see how he can contribute in the final stretch of the season.

However, given his time away from the game, he may need a couple of minor league rehab starts to regain his form. The Padres have a rotation spot open after optioning Matt Waldron to Triple-A El Paso, setting the stage for Darvish's eventual return.

As the Padres look to solidify their postseason chances, having Darvish back in the mix could make them a formidable opponent come October.
