Donovan Edwards Revealed the Two Ex-Michigan Players He Most Wants To Emulate As Team Captain

Donovan Edwards ran wild in January's 2024 National Championship Game against Michael Penix Jr.'s Washington Huskies before shocking college football fans by deciding to return for another season in Ann Arbor.

Edwards turned down a chance to be drafted alongside backfield mate Blake Corum for the opportunity to come back and lead the Wolverines as one of four team captains who were named this week.

Edwards, injured returning safety Rod Moore, safety Makari Paige and fullback Max Bredeson were named as Wolverines captains this month.

Now, the West Bloomfield, Michigan native and former five-star prospect has revealed the two Michigan captains he would most like to emulate.

"Probably Hutch (Aidan Hutchinson)...Him and Josh Ross," Edwards said in press conference footage shared on Thursday about the former Michigan Wolverines defensive end and inside linebacker, both of them fellow state of Michigan natives.

Edwards singled out the duo's ability to call a meeting when necessary and to not sugarcoat team standards as reasons he would like to emulate them from a leadership standpoint.

"I feel like, the 2-4 season, they called us into the team meeting room like, 'We're going to do it this way, and if you guys don't want to do it, get the...Get out of here, you feel me, like we don't want you here."

Edwards said that he and his fellow 2021 freshman class did an "amazing job" of listening to Michigan's captains en route to a Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoffs berth.

"Those guys have laid the foundation for us and we're just continuing to add to that blueprint they gave us," Edwards added.
