Marina Mabrey’s Blunt Response To Chennedy Carter’s Flagrant Foul

On Friday night, Marina Mabrey helped the Connecticut Sun defeat her former team, the Chicago Sky, by a final score of 82-80.

Things got pretty heated early on between Mabrey and her old teammate Chennedy Carter. With 2:18 remaining in the first quarter, Mabrey received the ball in the low post with Carter guarding her. As she went up for a shot, Carter swiped down at the ball and hit Mabrey directly in the face.

The newest Sun star fell to the ground in some pain. The referees reviewed the play and deemed it a flagrant on Carter after initially calling it a personal foul.

In a postgame press conference, Mabrey was asked about the foul on Carter and gave a short and direct response.

"There's levels to this s***, so I'm not gonna fight with that," Mabrey said.

Mabrey was traded on July 17, just before the Olympic break. In return, the Sky received guards Rachel Banham and Moriah Jefferson, the right to swap 2026 first-round picks and a 2025 second-round pick.

Mabrey got the best of her former team, scoring a game-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting off the bench. The former Notre Dame star also had the best plus/minus of the game with a plus-10.

Carter finished the game with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. She also fouled out late in the fourth quarter.

The Sun moved to 21-7 on the year and still sit comfortably at the second-place spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sky, on the other hand, fell to 11-17 and are in danger of losing their playoff position to the Atlanta Dream (10-18).
