ESPN Takes One Last Playful Jab At Florida State Before College Football Season

The Florida State Seminoles first reached the College Football Playoff in 2014 with Jameis Winston at quarterback. They finished the regular season undefeated in 2023 but missed the playoff, much to the disappointment of their fans.

Starting quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending injury against North Alabama before the end of the regular season. The Seminoles started backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker in the ACC Championship against the Louisville Cardinals. Rodemaker then suffered an injury against the Florida Gators and was unlikely to play in the playoff, leaving Brock Glenn to start if the committee selected Florida State.

Before "College GameDay" started on Saturday, ESPN's Gary Striewski took a shot at Florida State one more time. Striewski and his fellow ESPN anchor had a little back and forth. Striewski took the side of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Striewski's fellow anchor talked trash about Georgia Tech, saying that the Yellow Jackets are not the best team in Georgia, implying that the Georgia Bulldogs were the better program.

"...Listen up, that team ain't even the school in Florida," Striewski said. "Tallahassee might as well be South Georgia. The further north you go, the more south you get."

Florida State and Georgia Tech have had some memorable games in the past. In 2015, Florida State attempted a game-winning field goal that Georgia Tech blocked and took back for a touchdown, giving the Yellow Jackets the win.

Georgia Tech beat Florida in 2020, too. Then, Florida State got revenge in 2022 with a 41-16 blowout win.

Florida State and Georgia Tech meet on ESPN in Dublin, Ireland, at noon ET.
