Minnesota Timberwolves to remain on Bally Sports North for 2024-25 season

The Minnesota Timberwolves will remain on Bally Sports North for the 2024-25 season after the channel's parent company, Diamond Sports Group, reached an agreement with the NBA on Friday.

The agreement allows Diamond Sports Group to continue carrying games through the 2024-25 season. While they dropped the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans as part of the new deal, the Timberwolves remained among the 13 NBA teams in which Diamond possesses broadcast rights.

The other teams in the agreement include the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic and the San Antonio Spurs.

Diamond Sports filed for bankruptcy in March 2023 but has continued to operate while working through court. A hearing was scheduled for June 18 to present DSG's path moving forward but it was delayed until the end of July before the group asked for more time due to a battle with Comcast.

Comcast, which is the most popular cable provider in the Twin Cities area, pulled Bally Sports North from its lineup in May and was absent for three months before the two sides came to an agreement in August.

While the deal was especially frustrating for Minnesota Twins fans, who were left out in the cold with their agreement, the channel is now available on Comcast – albeit for a larger fee than the company asked for back in May.

Teams have begun looking for alternatives to Diamond Sports as a way to broadcast their games but it has been a slow process. The NBA's Utah Jazz and MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres are among teams that have started their own subscription-based distribution systems but it's unknown if the revenue has matched the guaranteed check that Bally's agreement promises.

Either way, fans will be frustrated with the new agreement with hopes that a permanent resolution can be reached in 2025.
