The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the road to take on the Detroit Lions in their final preseason game of the year.

After the opening kickoff didn’t land in the drop zone, the Steelers started the game with the ball at their 40-yard line. Facing 3rd and 11, quarterback Russell Wilson hit receiver George Pickens on a crossing route for a 31-yard catch down to the Lions 29-yard line.

Running back Cordarrelle Patterson was dropped for a loss on first down, then on 2nd and 12, Wilson handed off to Patterson over the left side. Patterson tucked the ball and rumbled 31 yards untouched into the endzone. Following the kick, the Steelers held a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

The drive went 60 yards in five plays for the score. On the series, Wilson was 2-of-2 for 30 yards. Wilson gave way to quarterback Justin Fields on the second drive as the quarterback battle continues for the Steelers.

Saturday is the last opportunity for either Fields or Wilson to set themselves apart from the other for the starting job in Week 1 on Sept.8 against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Wilson was initially given the "pole position" for the starting job by coach Mike Tomlin, but suffered a calf injury the first day of training camp that opened the door for Fields. Since then, Tomlin has been non-commital about Fields taking the starting job.
