Bears put 2 on IR, waive 3 others

The roster moves are already starting for the Chicago Bears with the roster cutdown deadline just a few days away.

Saturday, the club waived defensive tackle Keith Randolph Jr. and cut tight end Tommy Sweeney. Additionally, the Bears waived safety Douglas Coleman III — who was stretchered off the field in Thursday’s game — with an injury designation, meaning he’ll revert to Chicago’s injured reserve if he’s not claimed on waivers.

Finally, the Bears put wide receiver Nsimba Webster and running back Ian Wheeler on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Webster suffered a groin injury and Wheeler suffered a torn ACL on Thursday’s preseason finale.

It's unfortunate for Webster and Wheeler, who had shown some good potential this preseason, particularly Webster on Thursday. They'll now have to work to get another chance to show that next year.

NFL teams have to trim their rosters to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon.
