FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys closed their preseason slate Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers . After extended time on the West Coast, the team returns to the confines of AT&T Stadium.

Quarterback Trey Lance has played the majority of the Cowboys' preseason action, but finally got his first official start with the Star affixed to his helmet.

But the Cowboys' defense came away with an interception for the third week in a row. This time, Julius Wood forced the turnover, remaining alert on a tipped pass that fell into his arms.

That marks his second interception of the preseason, the first coming two weeks ago against the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately, an interception on the opposite end of the field would make Wood's play all for naught.

Despite a pair of costly explosive plays conceded to the Chargers' offense, the Cowboys' defense has remained steady. Given DaRon Bland's injury, this group will need to be opportunistic in his absence.

Mike Zimmer's unit has shown that characteristic without the stars of this group seeing the field in the preseason. They will return to the field in two weeks against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

The Cowboys' would certainly benefit if the defense continues to have a nose for the ball.
