Jets Are In Difficult Spot Deciding 53-Man Roster, Waiver Wire

Few teams in the NFL have as talented and as deep a roster as the New York Jets have going into the 2024 season.

With that reality, though, comes the downside of having such a group - other organizations will do everything they can to try and poach talent from that roster.

And cutdown day is their best chance to do that.

As the Jets begin to make decisions on which players should stay and go from the 53-man roster, the very real reality of losing some quality players due to the sheer size and skill of the roster is looming over the Jets head.

Even after their 10-6 preseason win over the New York Giants on Saturday.

"You always want to keep your own, but you’re always going to keep an eye out. If you can upgrade the roster, you’re going to upgrade the roster," Jets head coach Robert Saleh said. "But we feel good about the guys we have in our building. We feel like we’d be really hard-pressed to find guys who aren’t in this locker room already."

New York may want to keep their own, but other organizations might not give them that chance.

Players like Leonard Taylor III, Takk McKinley, Israel Abanikanda, and Braiden McGregor all performed well in their preseason finale, but all are on the roster bubble.

Not everyone can make the 53-man team, and for many on that bubble, they could be in their last few days with a top team like the Jets.
