Do 'Urgent' Cowboys Have 'Healthy' Plan for CeeDee?

FRISCO — Training camp and now the preseason are matters of the past for the Dallas Cowboys . The team will begin making cuts and organizing its 53-man roster for the regular season.

The Cowboys will have the full say on the answers to those questions though the glaring issue of CeeDee Lamb's holdout remains present.

Only one other headline detracts from this saga and that revolves around Dak Prescott's uncertain future with the franchise given his absent extension. But the quarterback has been present throughout camp and there are no questions about his starting the regular season under center.

The matter of Lamb's extension becomes more of a concern the longer he remains away from the team. Jerry Jones has insisted that talks have progressed despite questionable comments on "urgency," a buzzword Mike McCarthy mentioned in his postgame comments Saturday evening.

Said Jones: "I think there's urgency on both sides. Just once again, I mean, this is business. What goes on there is really between the individuals in the room. But yes, I think everybody involved wants to get it done."

If the two sides come to terms within the coming days, how does Dallas reintegrate a player that has not participated with the team for such an extended time?

Said coach Mike McCarthy: "You got to have a healthy plan. Yeah, definitely. We've got to be smart there and just use good judgment. And that'll be the case.''

There remains a process of working the receiver back in once he is back inside The Star. As McCarthy mentions, there is no working around Lamb's absence from playing football and the team will have to find the right process to reintegrate him.

He will not return to a situation completely foreign to him. But he needs to get in football shape and missing camp will set him behind in that aspect. With the regular season approaching, the time to execute that process is minimal.

Before that happens, the Cowboys first need to bring him back.
