The Denver Broncos' quarterback battle has already been decided, with head coach Sean Payton going with rookie signal-caller Bo Nix. The Broncos' decision to go with a first-year pro as their Week 1 starter was not an easy one to accept for NFL veteran Jarrett Stidham, who has been in the league since the 2019 season.

"I know I'm a starting quarterback in this league," Stidham told reporters following Denver's 38-12 preseason win at home over the Arizona Cardinals, per Andrew Mason of Denver Sports 104.3 .

"I have zero doubts about that," he added. "And, it just didn't shake out my way. But I know what kind of player I am, kind of person I am."

With the QB1 job in the bag, Nix did not play in the Cardinals game. Meanwhile, Nix passed for 28 yards on 2-for-8 completions with zero touchdowns and no picks thrown in minimal action. Zach Wilson dominated the QB snaps, going 16-for-25 for 251 passing yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

Nix's postgame comments, while honest, did not sit well with a lot of fans.

"I get that he has confidence in his abilities, but this comes off all kinds of wrong. He's stating that he has no faith in Bo Nix. He is negative energy in the locker room," wrote a user.

"He’s a cancer to this locker room. Cut him immediately, and give his spot to a more deserving player," commented another.

"Wait until Zach Wilson takes the backup role from him 🤣" another user tweeted.

"The kind of person you are is……not a good teammate. Clearly the coaching staff saw Nix was better and made that decision. All you can do is speak about yourself. Quite telling," said another.

"Says he knows he’s a starting qb in this league while shaking his head right and left, he knows he’s lying to himself."

"QB position gotta have the most delusional players in all of sports"

Now, Stidham is left hoping that Wilson doesn’t surpass him on the Broncos’ depth chart.

Stidham, who signed a two-year deal worth $10 million with the Broncos in 2023, started for two games with Denver last season and went just 1-1 with 496 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception on a 60.6 percent completion rate.
