FRISCO -Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list while he recovers from a gruesome knee injury suffered in Week 2 last season. ... and it looks like it's going to stay that way for a while.

Recently, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski has been non-committal about Chubb's return timeline, and the running back hasn't really fully worked out with his teammates this offseason and in training camp.

And now we know that Chubb being ready for Week 1 vs. the Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns Stadium isn't happening. If Chubb remains on the PUP list to start the season - which is the plan, as first noted by ESPN, he'll have to miss at least the first four games of the 2024 campaign.

"I'm not going to get too far down the road on that type of stuff," Stefanski said. "I will tell you, I get to see him work out every day. He's doing everything that he's supposed to do and more, but not going to get too far down the road."

The Brown running back room is fairly deep with D'Onta Foreman, Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong on the roster. But none of them are quite as fearsome as Chubb, an elite back when healthy.

Dallas has been listed as a one-point underdog for the Sunday, Sept. 8 meeting at Cleveland, which is slated to be FOX's Game of the Week.
