The New England Patriots finished up their preseason schedule on Sunday with a 20-10 loss against the Washington Commanders .

One of the stories of the night was the poor performance from New England's offensive line , something that was on display from the game's very first possession. Veteran and presumptive starter Jacoby Brissett took the first drive of the night, and the issues on the line popped up quickly.

A miscommunication from the line allowed second-year linebacker KJ Henry a free shot at Brissett:

After the hit, the veteran quarterback appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain, pointing to his right shoulder and wincing as he finished the drive. Head coach Jerod Mayo pulled Brissett out of the game after the conclusion of the drive and put Drake Maye in the game , a move that was the plan going into the night regardless.

Brissett likely would have remained in the game if it were a regular season contest Either way, seeing the poor play of the line result in a quarterback injury is not something fans will be thrilled to see.

This was the final preseason game for the New England Patriots. The Pats finish the preseason at 1-2 after winning the opening game against the Carolina Panthers 17-3 and falling last week to the Philadelphia Eagles 14-13. The team will have until August 27th before they must cut the roster to 53 players in preparation for Week 1 of the NFL Regular season. The Patriots will open the year on the road at Paycor Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 8th at 1 PM EST.
