'Not A Hall Of Famer!' Ex NFL Wideout On Steelers QB Russell Wilson

In the annals of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, nearly every quarterback who led his team to two Super Bowl wins has been inducted.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is eligible in 2027. Big Ben has two Super Bowl rings and the statistics to back it up.

Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has mediocre stats at best. He will be eligible for induction in 2025, and while his stats don’t show it, he has two Super Bowl rings over the New England Patriots. Because of those two rings, he’s almost a lock to get in.

Current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson should have two rings of his own, but the worst play call in Super Bowl history prevented that.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh was in a recent episode of “Speak” on FS1 and he believes that Wilson just isn’t Hall of Fame material.

"He had the perfect situation in Seattle. Great defense, really good receivers, great run game with Marshawn Lynch,” T.J. said. “What happens is, we as players, we start to think rightfully so, 'It's me.' He wanted more control.

“That's when 'Let Russ Cook' started, he put that out there. The Russell Wilson that was taking Seattle to the Super Bowl, you've got to give Pete Carroll for that. Not Russell Wilson."

Those are harsh words, but since Wilson left Seattle and Pete Carroll, his career has taken a nose dive. He believes that Wilson doesn’t have the confidence it takes to be a starter in the NFL anymore.

He also believes that the holdup on coach Mike Tomlin’s starting QB announcement is because he wants to start Justin Fields.

"Mike Tomlin is undecided because he probably wants Justin Fields, but he wants to go with a guy that he saw do well a decade ago,” T.J. continued. “That guy is no longer there. He's going to start. He won't finish. He won't even make it through, I believe, four games as a starter."

Tomlin announced that he would make the announcement later this week following the final three days of “Steelers vs. Steelers” practices.

Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher said a few weeks ago that he believes Tomlin will start the season with Wilson but eventually move to Fields if Wilson struggles.

The season kicks off on Sept. 8 when the Steelers head to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.
