The New England Patriots finished up their preseason schedule on Sunday with a 20-10 loss against the Washington Commanders .

While New England did fall to a Commanders team that did not play many of its starters, the end result of a preseason game is not often relevant rather than seeing flashes from certain players.

The Patriots offensive rookies shined , which was the main story of the night, but one player on defense who is pushing for a roster spot made a huge play in the second quarter. Linebacker Joe Giles-Harris, who was on the team's practice squad in 2023, jumped the route on an attempt from Washington quarterback Jeff Driskel and was able to intercept the pass and allow New England to take over:

Giles-Harris has been in the league since 2019 and has spent time with the Jaguars and the Bills. After being waived and signed back to the practice squad by the Patriots last season, Giles-Harris is looking to parlay a strong preseason into a spot on the 53-man roster, something that now seems likely .

This was the final preseason game for the New England Patriots. The Pats finish the preseason at 1-2 after winning the opening game against the Carolina Panthers 17-3 and falling last week to the Philadelphia Eagles 14-13. The team will have until August 27th before they must cut the roster to 53 players in preparation for Week 1 of the NFL Regular season. The Patriots will open the year on the road at Paycor Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 8th at 1 PM EST.
