Chiefs Begin Final Roster Cuts with QB

The Kansas City Chiefs concluded the preseason portion of their 2024 schedule on Thursday night with a 34-21 loss to the Chicago Bears. Of course, the score doesn't matter, but rather, the player evaluation process that began earlier this summer during OTAs.

Each NFL team has to shrink its massive offseason roster to just 53 by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, and the Chiefs began that process on Monday.

Quarterback Ian Book has been released by Kansas City a full day before final roster cuts are due, per NFLNetwork's Tom Pelissero. The roster spot was necessary for the Cheifs to sign a familiar face in wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, which the team will now be able to do.

If Book isn't claimed off waivers, then he can rejoin the Chiefs or any other team, most likely on a practice squad.

The Chiefs are left with a still full quarterback room with Patrick Mahomes, Carson Wentz and Chris Oladokun.

Kansas City opens the regular season on Sept. 5 on Thursday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of last season's AFC Championship game.
