It's officially game week for the Texas Longhorns.

Texas' 2024 college football season will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 31 against Colorado State. Should fourth-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his squad manage to obtain a comfortable lead, many Longhorn faithful are hoping to witness backup quarterback Arch Manning take the field.

Manning, a former five-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, currently sits behind Heisman contender Quinn Ewers on the depth chart. The nephew of Eli and Peyton will likely only see the field this season if Ewers suffers an injury and/or Texas builds a significant lead on its opponent at the time.

Even as the backup, Sarkisian is eager to get Manning playing time this season. If nothing else, it will provide valuable experience for Manning as he's set to take over as the starter in 2025.

While speaking to the media on Monday, Sarkisian provided a three-word response on whether we'll see Manning take the field during the first half of the Colorado State matchup in Week 1.

"We'll find out," Sarkisian said .

His response certainly echoes how well the Longhorns play throughout the first half. If the game is somewhat close, it's understandable that Manning won't see the field. Should all go as planned and Texas dominate the first half, there's a chance the beloved backup could enter the game behind center.

Realistically, Manning entering the game in the first half is a bit of a stretch as it's likely for many starters to need to work through first-game jitters. Whether Manning receives playing time in Week 1 or not, Texas fans should feel confident that he can handle the load if his number is called.
