The New England Patriots fell to the Washington Commanders by a score of 20-10 in their final preseason game of 2024 on Sunday night.

Despite the loss, the team saw some extremely encouraging signs, namely from their rookie quarterback, No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye . The young gunslinger played the best game he's played in the preseason so far and showed off both his arm talent and mobility that made him such a highly rated prospect.

Maye spoke to the media after the game and talked about his performance as well as the offense as a whole and some of the penalties the unit took which backed them up.

"It felt good being out there," Maye said . "I think the biggest thing is just hurting ourselves offensively, stalling drives with penalties. I got to get us out of the huddle probably faster. Other than that. I had a snap on the ground, just little things like that. Got to clean up, but at the same time, it’s a good learning experience for us and get ready for when things start counting."

The first drive was Maye's best of the night, going 5 of 6 with 71 yards and a touchdown. He addressed the first drive specifically as well.

"I think the guys were just doing their jobs. I think that’s the biggest thing, executing plays that we practice week," he said. "Finding guys, my job is to get the ball to them. Again, backed up and we had a low snap and probably should have caught it. I think we were second and 18 from there. Just can’t shoot ourselves in the foot. Little things like that against a good football team. We got lucky tonight, so just got to start better."
