Should Browns Look to Re-Sign Kareem Hunt with Chubb Out?

    By Colin Miller,

Fans of the Cleveland Browns received some unfortunate but expected news today, as the team announced that running back Nick Chubb will miss the first four weeks of the regular season as he continues to rehab a severe left knee injury that he suffered in 2023.

While the team does have Jerome Ford starting at running back, who rushed for over 800 yards last season following Chubb's injury, they are a bit thin behind him. Running backs D'Onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines are both missing practice with ribs and knee injuries, respectively. This leaves just one of the team's top four running backs healthy with the regular season under two weeks away.

Since Chubb will miss at least four weeks, it might be smart for the team to bring in another running back to lighten the load for Ford as the team begins the season. One option is a very familiar face in Kareem Hunt.

Hunt, who spent the last five seasons with Cleveland, knows the system well and has been a great scoring option for the team as he rushed for nine touchdowns last season, a career-high. He's currently a free agent, so the Browns could bring him back on a cheap deal, or even wait until after roster cuts and simply sign him to their practice squad.

Although the team could expect Foreman and Hines to return to practice soon, last season should've been proof that the Browns can never account for too many injuries.
