The Detroit Lions reportedly made several roster cuts on Monday as the deadline to finalize a 53-man roster is less than 24 hours away.

The first two roster cuts to be reported involved wide receivers Kaden Davis and Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Additionally, the Lions reportedly waived the following players on Monday:

    • Mitchell Agude, DE
    • Bryan Hudson, OL
    • Rachad Wildgoose, CB
    • Ty Summers, LB
    • Pat O'Connor, DL
    • Zonovan Knight, RB
    • Scott Daly, LS
    • Shane Zylstra, TE

The team also moved cornerback Emmanuel Moseley on injured-reserve-to-return and guard Christian Mahogany on NFI/reserve.

One of the biggest names among this list to highlight is Agude, who led the Lions in tackles (12) through three preseason games. The defensive end was competing with undrafted rookie Isaac Uche and 2022 draft pick James Houston, among others.

He spent most of last season on the Lions' practice squad and early on gave the impression he may solidify a roster spot this season. However, the 25-year-old fell down the depth chart and ultimately found himself off an NFL team.

Hudson, an undrafted rookie, didn't allow a sack and only two pressures in the three preseason games. Detroit already has one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and it would've been a longshot for Hudson to beat out already established talents.

Wildgoose  — who signed with the team last week —and Knight were considered longshots to make the team when camp opened.

Summers had a massive game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the preseason finale, recording 1.5 sacks and eight tackles. However, it wasn't enough for the linebacker to make the roster. The Lions already have talent at the position that includes Malcolm Rodriguez, Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes, Alex Anzalone, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

Last season, he played 15 games for the New Orleans Saints, appearing on special teams.

O'Connor was signed to the team at the beginning of the month but is one of the odd men out on the defensive line. NFL inside Jordan Schultz reports that the Lions are hoping to sign O'Connor to the practice squad.

The Lions are also switching up at the long snapper position, as they reportedly waived Scott Daly and will go with Hogan Hatten moving forward.

Hatten is relatively new to the position, as he played mostly linebacker in his college career and moved to full-time long snapper in 2022.

Daly had spent the past three years with the Lions and missed the final nine games of the 2023 season with a knee injury.

Zylstra, who missed all of last season with a knee injury and subsequent surgery, doesn't make the final roster in the tight end room. He made six catches in three preseason games and will likely get a shot with another NFL team this season at some point.

Lions fans will remember Zylstra's three-touchdown game against the Carolina Panthers in 2022.
