FRISCO — Despite some concern regarding the backup spot behind Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills are only holding on to two quarterbacks for their final 53-man roster.

With Mitch Trubisky slated as the current backup, Buffalo will reportedly release former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter .

Trubisky has been sidelined by a knee injury in recent weeks, leaving the door open for DiNucci to be called up as the backup in a scenario where the team brings him back on the practice squad.

He appeared in two Bills preseason games, starting in one of those contests. He threw for 96 yards and one touchdown.

DiNucci, a former seventh-round pick of the Cowboys, last saw regular season action with the Cowboys in 2020. Amid Dak Prescott's season-ending injury, DiNucci appeared in three games, totaling 219 yards on 23 of 43 passing.

The Cowboys waived DiNucci in 2022 before an XFL stint with the Seattle Sea Dragons. He started 10 games and led the team to a 7-3 record.

A year ago, he spent the preseason with the Broncos. He appeared in all three games, throwing for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

The Cowboys have their own backup situation to sort through with Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, so any reunion with his original team would be unlikely.
