Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson has received a key update on his status for the 2024 NFL season after suffering an ACL and MCL tear against the Detroit Lions last year in Week 16.

He will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, which means he’ll miss at least the team's first four games.

“Minnesota is leaving TE T.J. Hockenson on the Physically Unable to Perform List, which means he is ineligible to be active during the first four games of the season, per sources,” said ESPN’s Adam Schefter . “Hockenson is still recovering from last season’s torn ACL but is expected to return this season.”

Hockenson was injured after a controversial low hit from Detroit safety Kerby Joseph, which Hockenson briefly addressed in frustration.

“Obviously I wasn’t too happy about it,” Hockenson said in an interview with ESPN.

Hockenson will miss key games against the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, and Green Bay Packers—three of which made the playoffs last season.

He’s not the only Viking dealing with injuries.

Rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy tore his meniscus in the preseason against the Las Vegas Raiders and is out for the entire 2024 NFL season.
