New Dak Prescott Contract Update Reveals 'What the Cowboys Are Up Against'

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport revealed on Tuesday the challenging situation the Dallas Cowboys face with Dak Prescott's contract negotiations.

According to Rapoport, Prescott holds an absurd amount of leverage in the discussions.

“Dak Prescott has as much contract leverage as you can literally ever have,” said Rapoport. “He cannot be franchise tagged, he cannot be traded, and he’s almost certainly going to be the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL if he gets a deal.”

Rapoport notes that while Prescott's situation might not affect his ability to secure a lucrative deal, it poses a massive challenge for the Cowboys.

“If he doesn’t take a deal, which he doesn’t have to, he’ll be the highest-profile free agent in NFL history,” said Rapoport. “That is what the Cowboys are up against.”

Prescott, 31, still playing at a high level, can become a free agent after this season and likely secure a massive contract elsewhere.

The Cowboys, having recently signed their All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a record four-year, $136 million deal, are facing increased pressure to sign the other key part of their explosive offense.

Lamb's deal makes him the second-highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.

Rumors are swirling that Prescott could become the first quarterback to exceed $60 million per year in a new deal.

With Lamb already signed and other stars like Micah Parsons also due for contract extensions, the Cowboys face a tough task managing their finances and securing Prescott's future with the team.
