The New York Giants are releasing veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson, the team informed him on Tuesday.

Robinson, who signed a one-year contract worth $1.3 million with the Giants in May, is facing an unfamiliar situation despite his impressive career.

Given his history of success, Robinson has rarely been in this position, making this release a surprising turn in his otherwise steady career.

Robinson, with over 7,000 career receiving yards, was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He quickly made a name for himself, amassing nearly 550 yards in his rookie season and emerging as a top target with 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns in his second year, earning his first and only Pro Bowl nod.

Though Robinson remained consistent with 883 yards and six touchdowns in the following season, an ACL tear in 2017 ended his time with the Jaguars.

He then enjoyed successful stints with the Chicago Bears, where he recorded back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020, before moving to the Los Angeles Rams and later the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Despite his release, Robinson’s extensive experience and proven track record make him a strong candidate for teams looking to add a seasoned receiver to their roster.

He could provide valuable depth and leadership or serve as a reliable option for teams needing a boost in their receiving corps.
