Anonymous NFL Coach Disrespects Raiders' Quarterback

Once a year, The Athletic publishes a preseason ranking of the NFL's 32 starting quarterbacks. This year's edition was released on Monday, and it contains some interesting information.

In their list, they provide tiers, and rank the quarterbacks among them. First is tier one, which they define as a quarterback who can carry his team to a win every week. After that is tier two, which involves quarterbacks who can carry their team at times, but have holes in their games.

You probably get the idea here: as the tiers increase, the value of the quarterbacks decreases. Unfortunately, The Athletic wasn't fond of the Las Vegas Raiders ' starting quarterback, Gardner Minshew.

Minshew was ranked in the fourth tier, which is described as an unproven player, or a veteran quarterback that ideally wouldn't be a full-time starter. Minshew was ranked 25th out of the 32 quarterbacks listed.

“Nobody wants him to be a starter, probably even his own team, but he won games with Indy last year,” said an anonymous NFL offensive coach. "When you play him, the kid is competitive. He will keep you in the game — and them. It’s going to be a fight.”

The Raiders' quarterback competition throughout the preseason didn't provide a lot of hope. Both Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew struggled at times, and although Minshew wound up winning the job, there's reason for coaches to be as low on him as they are, like this anonymous coach.

However, it wasn't all bad. The coach also mentioned Minshew's competitiveness, and that while he makes mistakes, he's also capable of keeping his team in the game.

With a high-powered defense, playmakers at skill positions , and a crowded running back room , mistake-free football is what the Raiders will be looking for out of Minshew in 2024.

If he can provide that, the Raiders could contend for the playoffs, and Minshew might also start earning some more respect around the league.
