As the 2024 NFL season approaches, former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber has shared his high expectations for Saquon Barkley , who now finds himself with the Philadelphia Eagles after leaving the Giants in free agency. Barber, who initially made headlines with his critical remarks about Barkley's move to a division rival, recently clarified his comments, emphasizing the deep respect he still has for Barkley and the impact he expects him to make.

“He’s going to be great,” Barber told Rob Tornoe of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “That’s why we hate it. If he were washed, we wouldn’t care. He’s still in his prime, and he’s going to rush for 1,500 yards, and probably 400 of those will come against us.”

Barkley’s transition to the Eagles comes with the benefit of running behind a consistently dominant offensive line. This key factor, according to Barber, could propel Barkley to a 1,500-yard season, something he has accomplished twice in his first six years in the league. The potential for Barkley to thrive in Philadelphia’s high-powered offense is clear, especially considering the dynamic nature of the team’s playmakers.

Adding to the praise, former Eagles and Washington Commanders legendary running back Brian Mitchell echoed Barber’s confidence in Barkley.

"I think Saquon is capable of carrying an offense," said former Eagles and Washington Commanders legendary running back Brian Mitchell, "especially with the supporting cast he has in Philly."

If Barkley can stay healthy and avoid major setbacks, there is growing optimism around the league that he could be a serious contender for the Offensive Player of the Year award, or even MVP, should the Eagles’ offense meet its lofty expectations. This season could see Barkley not just returning to form, but potentially reaching new heights in his career.
