Vikings final roster cuts: RB Kene Nwangwu, CB Duke Shelley among those let go

The Minnesota Vikings are finalizing its 53-man roster on Tuesday, as the deadline is 3 p.m. CT.

Some players were already cut on Monday, including running back DeWayne McBride and former Gophers Mo Ibrahim and Chuck Filiaga.

Here's a list of players reportedly cut on Tuesday. We will update this list as news is confirmed:

Linebacker Gabriel Murphy joined offensive lineman on the injured-reserve-designated-for-return list as well on Tuesday. Linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk was placed on the injured reserve.

The biggest surprise of the day so far has been the departure of Nwangwu, who has spent the past three seasons in Minnesota. It only leaves the current roster with two true running backs — Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler — after the Vikings also cut Gaskin, McBride, and Ibrahim.

Nwangwu has never seen a large share of running back duties but has been a valuable punt and kick returner. He returned two kickoffs for scores as a rookie and another in 2022. He hadn't been seeing a lot of kick return work however, possibly putting the writing on the wall for the running back's future.

The Iowa State alum also played well this preseason, rushing the ball 12 times for 97 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown.

This is a developing story. We will update this as we learn more information.
