Former Clemson Star WR Loses Job With Chiefs

The NFL's 53-man roster deadline came and went on Tuesday, August 27 and the Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with multiple notable receivers.

In addition to releasing former first-round pick Kadarius Toney , the reigning Super Bowl champions have cut third-year wideout Justyn Ross, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz .

"Sources: The #Chiefs are releasing former Clemson star WR Justyn Ross," Schultz wrote on X on Tuesday. "KC has a crowded receiver room, making it tough to keep everyone."

While Ross will be eligible to return to Kansas City's practice squad, he may receive interest to join another 53-man roster entering the 2024 regular season.

After a four-year collegiate career, the now-24-year-old originally went undrafted out of Clemson University in 2022. He was later signed to the Chiefs' 90-man roster.

Despite his athleticism and towering 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame, Ross has seen limited playing time as a pro. All 10 of his games played came in 2023, when he hauled in 6-of-11 targets for 53 yards and a pair of first downs.

Ross' game-breaking ability was fully on display at Clemson, however. Despite missing the entire 2020 season due to surgery for a career-threatening spinal condition, Ross finished his college career with 158 catches, 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns.

He exploded onto the scene as a freshman in 2018 with 1,000 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns on only 46 receptions.
