Brant Hurter is set to make his first official start for the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night as they face off against the Los Angeles Angels at Comerica Park.

Catcher Dillon Dingler; infielders Jace Jung and Andy Ibanez; and infielder/outfielder Zach McKinstry will be available off the bench.

Hurter, 26 in September, was a seventh-round pick by the Tigers in the 2021 draft out of Georgia Tech. Hurter reached the Double-A level in his first professional season back in 2022 and went on to dominate the level in 2023, with a 3.28 ERA in 118 innings of work across 26 starts.

He struck out an impressive 26.7% of batters faced while walking just 6.6%, but the lefty has not been able to carry that success in Double-A over to his first taste of Triple-A action this year.

The Tigers, currently sitting at a .500 record of 66-66, are looking to gain some momentum as they head into this matchup against the struggling Angels, who have a record of 54-77.

The Tigers are on a hot streak and have currently ranked 23rd in OPS (.687) and 19th in runs scored (562), but they excel in pitching, ranking 10th in ERA (3.83), third in WHIP (1.20), and tied for ninth in batting average against (.238).

The game is scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m., and the Tigers will be eager to take advantage of playing at home.

This matchup presents a crucial opportunity for Detroit to push above the .500 mark as the season winds down. Fans can expect an exciting evening of baseball as the Tigers aim to improve their standing in the league.
