Commanders Reveal Initial 53-Man Roster; Final Cuts

After releasing 34 players and making 38 total personnel moves, Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders Tuesday afternoon revealed their initial 53-man roster.

This much we knew: Rookie quarterback is the crown jewel of the team, and will start Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This much we learned: Last weekend's preseason finale win over the New England Patriots was absolutely meaningless. In that game, quarterback Trace McSorley was the offensive spark, Michael Wiley and Martavis Bryant scored touchdowns, and defensive end K.J. Henry had a first-quarter sack. They were all were part of Tuesday's cuts.

Daniels will be backed up at quarterback by veterans Marcus Mariota and Jeff Driskel. Cade York won the kicking job with two made field goals and two extra points against the Pats. Seventh-round draft pick Javontae Jean-Baptiste made the roster as Quinn tries to revamp what last year was the NFL's worst defense.
