Julius Randle Elite Defender at Basketball Camp

    By Lance Roberson,

Julius Randle is for the children, especially those in New York. During the dog days of summer, the New York Knicks All-Star took his precious time to help the future hoopers. Randle hosted multiple basketball camps , one in Manhattan and the other in the Bronx. As a genuine leader, Randle didn't go easy on the children while shooting hoops.

Randle is coming off a second consecutive season that ended on the injury reserve list. Currently rehabbing his shoulder, Randle practiced his shot-blocking on the eager camp kids.

Although not a formidable rim protector, Randle showcased persistence in the paint as he prepared for the 2024-25 seasons. The Knicks star must exert the same energy as he did against the smaller competition at the basketball camps.

The Knicks upgraded its defense by adding Mikal Bridges via trade with the Brooklyn Nets. However, Randle must help the interior defense as Isaiah Hartenstein left for the Oklahoma City Thunder in free agency.

Tom Thibodeau expects the best from his defensive units, as the Knicks finished 10th in defensive rating. Randle is returning to a lineup loaded with wing protection, making for a relatively lighter load for starting center Mitchell Robinson.

According to Synergy Sports, Randle fell to the 14th percentile on defense regarding points per possession. According to Synergy Sports metrics, such a low number categorizes the All-Star forward as a "very poor" defender.

For the Knicks to succeed, Randle must improve defensively.
