New England Patriots Veteran QB Reveals Relationship with Rookie

As the season draws closer and closer for the New England Patriots , we are starting to see the picture of the roster come together fairly clearly.

That being said, however, there is obviously one giant elephant in the room when it comes to who will be on the field in week one, and it comes from the quarterback room . What once seemed like a natural and obvious plan for the veteran Jacoby Brissett to at the very least begin the season as the starter, highly touted rookie Drake Maye has made it at the minimum a major decision over the last several weeks.

Maye seems to have taken leaps in the areas of confidence and decision making, factors that are critical for a starting quarterback in the NFL . He also displayed the supreme level of talent and potential that made him such an early draft pick in the final preseason game of the season, a loss to Washington . Despite the fact that the pair are competing for the job, Brissett says that his relationship with the rookie is as good as it can be.

"It’s been good. I was with Sam (Howell) who is like his best friend and they’re very similar guys," Brissett said during an appearance with WEEI . "We’ve meet before he was even on the team, so we’ve had a relationship. And obviously, it’s not a final product. We’re still becoming closer and being around each other more and being able to talk…we’re around each other all the time…when we have downtime we spend time together."

Brissett was brought in to be a good teammate and a mentor first and foremost on top of potentially being the starting quarterback. Seeing that he appears to be holding up that end of the bargain should make Patriots fans grateful that they have a consummate professional in the room.
