Chiefs Linebacker to Miss First Four Games While Recovering From Seizure

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker BJ Thompson will begin the 2024 season on the non-football illness list. This comes months after Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting in June.

With this move, Thompson will have to miss the first four games of the regular-season. However, he isn't confirmed to be out for the entirety of the season. In fact, there is optimism that Thompson may end up returning to play for the Chiefs at some point in 2024.

This move comes on the day that every NFL team had to bring their rosters down to 53 players to begin the regular-season.

The Chiefs selected Thompson in the fifth-round of the 2023 draft. Although he was a member of the 2023 Super Bowl team, he was inactive for every game except for one. Thompson made his NFL debut in Week 18, when he totaled two tackles.

Thompson played college football at Stephen F. Austin University, where he was a two-time first-team All-WAC member. While it's unclear whether Thompson will have an impact for the team this year when he does return, since he has missed all of training camp, it is still a positive thing to see that he may be healthy enough to return in the upcoming season.

Thompson will be eligible to be taken off of the NFI list in Week 5, when the Chiefs take on the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 7.
