Paul Finebaum Settles Florida State College Football Playoff Debate After Loss

Last season was a memorable one for the Florida State Seminoles. The team had an outstanding 13-1 record and clinched the ACC championship.

Despite a perfect regular season, the Seminoles were unable to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff. This made them the first Power Five undefeated champion to miss out. Instead, the Seminoles were passed over in favor of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Instead of proving they belong, several players opted out of the bowl game, which resulted in a blowout loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

This season, the Seminoles hope to make another run at the College Football Playoff and prove the committee wrong for what they did last season. However, things got off to a rocky start as Florida State was upset in Week Zero against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. That loss has led ESPN's Paul Finebaum to say the Seminoles have lost all validity to their argument that they were snubbed last season.

"They don't have any validity any longer," Finebaum said. "I think that's one of those stories that died a very long, hard death Saturday afternoon in Dublin."

That might be a little unfair. This is a completely different team than the one from last season. The Seminoles returned only 10 starters from last year's team: four on offense, four on defense and two on special teams.

Three of the four returning starters on offense are offensive linemen, and the other is a tight end. On defense, the Seminoles return two defensive linemen and two defensive backs.

The Seminoles have done a good job of recruiting from the transfer portal as they have signed the No. 7 transfer portal class. Now, the question is whether Florida State can rise above the criticism and prove the doubters, like Finebaum, wrong.
