The Kansas City Chiefs running back room just got even more crowded.

Veteran ball carrier Samaje Perine inked a deal with the Chiefs on Wednesday, per Mike Garafolo on X. The former Cincinnati Bengals RB will remain in the AFC West after previously battling the Chiefs for four seasons (2019-2022).

While he's only started in three games in the last two seasons, Perine is a quality dual-threat weapon who continues to produce in a complementary role. He spent the entire 2023-24 campaign with the Denver Broncos, and ran 53 times for 238 yards, while hauling in a career-high in receptions (50).

Now, the Chiefs plan to find a role for Perine in their already high-powered offense. Ian Rapoport reported that Kansas City was previously in trade discussions with the Broncos to acquire Perine, but when he became available after his release, they jumped at the opportunity to sign him.

The Chiefs backfield now features Isiah Pacheco, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Perine and Carson Steele.
