Cowboys Spark Fear of Losing Dak Prescott With Latest Message

    By J.R. DeGroote,

Jerry Jones' latest comments on Dak Prescott's contract situation have sparked fear that the Pro Bowl passer could walk away next season.

Prescott is entering the final year of the four-year, $160 million deal he signed with the Cowboys in 2021. If the sides do not agree on an extension, Prescott will be able to test free agency and will likely have multiple suitors willing to pay him top dollar.

Jones said he doesn't see it as a "risk" if the Cowboys do not sign Prescott before Week 1.

“From the time I thought about buying the Cowboys, I frankly have never dwelled on assessing the risk of what we do around here," Jones said on Wednesday. "There's risk involved in everything you do, almost. There's risk involved; that's the nature of the game. Sometimes, it's worked out really well. Sometimes taking those risks will bite you.

"I don't even want to talk about any of the decisions about personnel with risk. It's all risky."

The comments from Jones didn't inspire confidence in the Cowboys' fan base.

"This moron is going to let Dak walk in 2025 and he's going to be stuck in QB hell for the rest of his life," one fan wrote.

Another commenter noted that the risk of letting Prescott walk away with no contingency plan isn't smart business.

"Well that’s something. Not sure that’s how you want to run an organization. Some risks are bigger than others."

Others are simply fed up with the cryptic and roundabout way Jones communicates on important issues.

"Jerry's press conferences are useless. Who knows if what he's saying is true and he talks in circles," another comment read. "It's mainly to generate attention. Dak could get extended while he's on the podium for all he knows."

Prescott finished second in MVP voting last season after he recorded 4,516 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

His next contract is expected to reset the quarterback market, surpassing the current mark of $55 million annually held by Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love.
