Dalvin Cook Signs With Cowboys; Gas Left in Tank?

The New York Jets saw a familiar face find a new home Wednesday when 29-year-old running back Dalvin Cook signed with the Dallas Cowboys. It's a one-year deal for the veteran as Dallas looks to replace the production lost from Tony Pollard's departure in free agency.

While Cook was very productive in his early seasons, some Jets fans may question if he has any gas left in the tank. Playing behind star running back Breece Hall in 2023, Cook rushed for just 214 yards while also losing two fumbles in his 15 appearances with the Jets. At the conclusion of the regular-season, Cook and the Jets mutually agreed to part ways, leading Cook to sign with the Baltimore Ravens for the playoffs.

Cook didn't fare much better in Baltimore, averaging just 2.9 yards-per-carry in his one playoff appearance. Now, he heads to a Cowboys team that will need strong production from their running backs as they look to compete for a Super Bowl.

In his short stint with New York, Cook simply didn't show the explosiveness that he displayed in his six years on the Minnesota Vikings, which, combined with Cook's desire to win a championship, led to the breakup at the end of the season.

While the Cowboys do have a much stronger offensive line than the 2023 Jets, it's still unclear if Cook has the explosiveness that made the four-time Pro Bowler one of the top running backs in the NFL early in his career.
