Texas fans are no strangers to dolling out hundreds of dollars for tickets to follow the Longhorns home and away, and this year will be no different.

After a social media post highlighting the most expensive tickets became a trending topic on Wednesday, it was revealed that a study done in July revealed all of the most expensive tickets.

247Sports went through ticket data from StubHub to determine the 20 most expensive games of the 2024 college football season, and the results aren’t much of a surprise given the massive amount of conference realignment the sport has experienced.

Texas, entering its first year in the SEC, plays in four of the seven most expensive games, including three of the top four. Leading the pack is the Longhorns’ Nov. 30 visit to Kyle Field to play the first "Lone Star Showdown" since Texas prevailed 27-25 over fierce rivals Texas A&M thanks to Justin Tucker’s game-winning 40-yard field goal 13 years ago.

When Texas A&M departed the Big 12 for the SEC in 2011, the rivalry appeared dead, but since it was announced in 2021 that Texas and Oklahoma would join the Aggies in the SEC, anticipation has been steadily building for the first “Lone Star Showdown” in a generation.

On average, to be one of the 100,000+ lucky spectators in Kyle Field that night, fans will need to pay $625, almost $100 more than the average ticket price for the second most expensive game of the season, the Army-Navy game, which will be played at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.

Coming in at third is Texas’ long-awaited visit to “The Big House” to play defending national champions Michigan. This non-conference battle of blue bloods is only the second time the schools have ever played and the first time during the regular season. Many Texas will remember the first encounter, a 38-37 Texas victory on a 37-yard field goal as time expired at the 2005 Rose Bowl, a year before the Longhorns would capture a national championship at the same site against USC.

Rounding out the top four is the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, which is annually played at the Cotton Bowl on the site of the Texas State Fair in Dallas, TX. While fans can enjoy the fair and its festivities relatively cheaply, they will have to pay $445 on average to get through the Cotton Bowl’s turnstiles.

Somewhat surprisingly, No. 1 Georgia’s Oct 19. visit to Austin is only the seventh most expensive ticket of the season, coming in at $355.41 on average. This matchup, which could be a preview of the SEC Championship, has been circled on the calendars of both fanbases since the schedule came out. Will Texas assert its dominance against perhaps the best team in its new conference, or will the Bulldogs provide the Longhorns with a “welcome to the SEC moment”? For an average of $355.41, fans can witness the spectacle in person.

Fans can get into Darrel K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for a minimum of $55 including fees to watch Texas open the season against Colorado St on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
