New England Patriots HC Says QB Decision is Made, Will Reveal on Thursday

The New England Patriots coaches and brass have made the decision on who their starting quarterback is going to be, at least at the beginning of the season.

After a hotly contested battle between the veteran Jacoby Brissett and the rookie Drake Maye , a decision must be made as we sit just a week and a half away from the season getting started in Cincinnati .

Head coach Jerod Mayo met with reporters on Wednesday and told them that he has made a decision and will reveal it on Thursday after he informs the players. Mayo was asked whether or not he feels like he has to explain his decision to his players, and he acknowledged the fairness of the question but said it's ultimately his decision.

"[The players have] gone through the process as well. They've gone through the spring with these players. They've gone through training camp with these players," Mayo said . "I'm sure they all have an opinion on who they think should be the starting quarterback, but I don't think I have to explain it to anyone else. It's my decision. Look, if it doesn't work, blame me, blame me."

Mayo went on to give a very cryptic quote implying that the decision could change down the line if he feels it's best for the team.

"I would say one thing, I think it's important to remember what's good for the team today may not be good for the team weeks down the line," he said . "So, I think the challenge is you want to win every single game now, but also we're trying to build something special here in New England."

The certainly sounds a whole lot like Brissett will be starting to begin the year before the reigns are eventually handed over to Maye in a few weeks. Time will tell how that strategy, if that is indeed the direction they take, pays off.
