    Cowboys Signing Dalvin; What'sRico's Reaction?

    By Adam Schultz,

The Dallas Cowboys' running back position has been a constant source of uneasiness this offseason. After roster cuts, Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn make up the room.

But with Dallas signing veteran Dalvin Cook to the practice squad, the entire room is on notice as Cook comes to The Star with Pro Bowl pedigree. While it is unknown exactly how much juice Dalvin has in his legs, there is a clear want to prove many people wrong in 2024 over the "washed" claims.

But with Cook signing, will a player like Rico Dowdle need to take his game up a level to ward off potentially being leap-frogged in the depth chart?

“It’s not any extra motivation," Dowdle said via the Dallas Morning News . “I’ve got two kids. That’s all the motivation I need. It’s nice having a guy like Dalvin come in. Zeke and him have been in the Pro Bowl. Just take it all in and go out there and continue to do what I do."

With Rico seen as RB-1 A behind Elliott, there is a thought that, in a similar way to Tony Pollard in 2022, he'll overtake Zeke as the starter due to his production.

But does the signing of Cook mean anything for the current room? Possibly.

With Cook having skins on the wall, his experience could prove telling and running behind an offensive line that seems to be getting better with each passing week; maybe he could amount to something tangible if given a chance.

However, for Dalvin to get on the field, he must take reps away from someone. Will that be Rico? Deuce? Or even Zeke? Right now, Cook is getting up to speed on Mike McCarthy's offense and getting in shape.

Once he's ticked both boxes, then an interesting decision awaits.
