Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward has been vocal about his contract situation and his desire to stay with the team beyond this season. He is entering the final year of the four-year extension he signed in 2020.

Heyward was hampered last season with multiple injuries but he was asked about his health heading into the season this week.

"I was dealing with that all of camp and then it finally just went during the first game,” Heyward said. “I'm feeling really good right now. Just been doing a lot of PT, a lot of massages, a lot of things outside of the football field just to be ready. Here to say I'm ready."

The former Ohio State Buckeye is entering season No. 14 in the league. He collected double-digit sacks in 2021 and 2022 but was injured early on last season and only got to the quarterback twice.

He has been seeking a new contract to stay in Pittsburgh and finish his career as a “one-team guy,'' but nothing has come to fruition as of yet. Heyward was asked about his contract situation and where it stands as of now.

"Not right now. No new news,” Heyward said. “There is nothing to report, just going to keep my head down, just continue to control what I can control."

The Steelers open their season on Sunday Sept. 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, and Heyward and the rest of the Pittsburgh defense will be ready to dominate.

Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EDT.
