Auburn's Defense Must Slow Down A Talented Running Back For Alabama AM

The Auburn Tigers need to establish a dominant defense and the effort begins against Alabama A&M this Saturday.

By using CFB Stats and looking at the 2023 football season, Auburn’s defense ranks nationally as follows:

Total Defense: 357.2 (47)

Rushing Defense: 155 (78)

Passing Defense: 202.2 (31)

Scoring Defense: 22.6 (43)

To help improve upon those statistics for the 2024 season, Auburn needs to begin with a focus toward slowing down Alabama A&M’s best offensive player, running back Donovan Eaglin . A transfer from Michigan State, the 5-foot-11 and 226-pound running back is more than capable.

According to the Alabama A&M Athletics website , Eaglin’s numbers include playing in 10 games, carrying the football 142 times for 765 yards, a 5.4 average, and 7 touchdowns. As a receiver, 7 receptions for 65 yards, a 7.2 average.

Watching some of his 2023 game films, this is a downhill runner. Eaglin will break tackles if the Auburn defenders are not sound with their technique. Apparently Mississippi Valley State did not receive the memo during the last game of the 2023 season for Alabama A&M. Eaglin went off.

27 rushing attempts, 207 yards, a 7.7 average, and 2 touchdowns. His long carry would be 67 yards.

Looking back at his recruitment, 247 had him as a 3-star recruit and he signed with the Michigan State Spartans. After being a backup for two seasons in East Lansing, Eaglin made his way to Alabama A&M for the 2023 college football season.

As Auburn defensive coordinator DJ Durkin and co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly make final preparations for the first game inside Jordan Hare Stadium, Auburn defenders need to be mindful of the hard-charging Eaglin.
