Browns' Nick Chubb's Comeback Bid Faces Early Setback

Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb is tied for fifth in NFL.com's 2024 Comeback Player of the Year odds, despite being set to miss the start of the season. Chubb, with +1100 odds, shares this position with Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

However, missing the opening stretch of the season doesn’t help his chances of securing the award, which often favors players who deliver consistent performances throughout the year.

Chubb’s journey to a potential comeback title is complicated by his absence for at least the first four games, stemming from a severe knee injury sustained in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. To be a serious contender for the award, Chubb will need a remarkable season upon his return.

Despite the setback, Chubb remains in good shape financially, with a restructured, incentive-laden contract that allows him to earn back much of his value even with limited playtime. As reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , the deal is a rare exception, requiring only 12 active games to earn his full bonuses, rather than the usual 17.

Chubb’s consistent dominance in the backfield over his career, including 6,511 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns in 77 games, makes his potential return a game-changer for Cleveland. However, to win Comeback Player of the Year, Chubb will need to make a significant impact quickly, proving his resilience and ability to overcome adversity.

As the Browns prepare for their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on September 8 , they will rely on Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman, and Pierre Strong Jr. to shoulder the rushing duties in Chubb's absence.

For Chubb, the path to Comeback Player of the Year starts with a swift return and a series of standout performances that remind everyone of his elite talent.
