Robert Griffin III Sends Blunt Message to Russell Wilson Haters

Russell Wilson was named the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback over Justin Fields on August 28.

During an appearance on the "The Rich Eisen Show" on Wednesday, Robert Griffin III broke down why that was the "smart move" for Mike Tomlin and company. But he was also asked why certain media members hold negative feelings about Wilson.

Griffin, who acknowledged having a "great relationship" with the Steelers QB, had a pretty blunt message for Wilson's detractors.

"I believe that some people in our business don't believe he's a genuine guy," Griffin told host Rich Eisen . "Or they believe that he's too perfect, he tries to say the right thing too often. I don't think that. I just think that it's his personality."

"Listen, the man loves going to children's hospitals and giving back to the community. What is wrong with that?," Griffin continued.

"He loves his wife. He loves Ciara. He loves his kids. What's wrong with that? I don't think that you have to be what everyone else wants you to be. You just have to be yourself."

The 34-year-old, who has had his share of cringeworthy moments , is looking to put together his first winning season since 2020 with the Seattle Seahawks.

His 26-8 touchdown-to-interception ratio last season in Denver was among the NFL's best, but the run-heavy Steelers still have their work cut out in the very competitive AFC North — the only division with every team above .500 last season.

Pittsburgh still finished third in 2023 despite a 10-7 record.
